‘Best in Show’: UT Public Relations Wins Kudos for Promoting Campus Initiatives

For the second time in less than a month, the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s public relations office has won a top award for promoting important university initiatives.

The Tennessee College Public Relations Association recently awarded Viewbook — a publication prepared for the admissions office — both a gold, or first-place, award in the viewbook category and the “Best of Show” honor at its annual awards ceremony in Nashville. Last month, UT’s public relations office won a “Best of Show” award from the Volunteer Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for its “Ready for the World” campaign, publicizing diversity efforts on campus.

The top award was one of nine honors the public relations office received from TCPRA.

The office also received gold awards for its “FUTure” branding campaign and for the “OUTreach” printed tabloid that was part of that campaign. The goal of the campaign was to create an easily recognizable brand identity to capitalize on the university’s central role in Tennessee’s future and its unique ability to improve the lives of Tennessee’s citizens as the state’s leading provider of education, research and economic development. The UT brand incorporates the shape of the state of Tennessee, and is used in various words such as “FUTure” and “OUTreach” to promote the university.

Gold awards also were received for a laundry bag specialty item created for the admissions office.

A statewide media tour to promote the Promise Scholarship was honored with a silver, or second-place, award. The Promise Scholarship, available for the first time this fall to academically eligible students from 35 high schools statewide, was established to increase enrollment of students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Media relations coordinator Amy Blakely won a silver award for her feature story, “Of Crimes & Clues” that appeared in Alumnus Magazine.

Alumnus Magazine and the UT Web site received bronze, or third-place, awards.

The contest drew 134 entries this year. Forty-five Tennessee universities, colleges and community colleges are members of TCPRA.
