KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee Office of Public Relations will be honored next month with several top awards for its work in 2006.

The office has received notices of nominations from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Knoxville Advertising Federation and Keep Tennessee Beautiful, a statewide organization. Ceremonies and conferences where these awards will be presented will be held in February.

“We’re pleased that our team’s efforts on so many important initiatives for individual academic units, Knoxville campus as well as for system-wide initiatives have been recognized,” Vice Chancellor for Communications Tom Milligan said. “We’re proud of the work we do, and pleased with the recognition of our peers here and around the region for that work.”

Details on the awards are as follows:

CASE recognized communications initiatives on a range of projects, including

• Make Orange Green awareness campaign,
• A new Admissions student recruitment publication,
• Redesign of the Torchbearer alumni tabloid to a magazine, and
• Branding campaign efforts—with the FUTURE television spot and the supporting print advertisements being selected for honors.

Members of the Knoxville Advertising Federation will honor some of the work of our PR team and projects for

• The MARCO Institute,
• College of Arts and Sciences Outreach,
• English department,
• Cultural Attractions Committee,
• Love United Gospel Choir, and
• Admissions student recruitment efforts.

Cooperative efforts to produce the Make Orange Green campaign with facilities services, faculty members and the SPEAK (Students Promoting Environmental Action in Knoxville) group will also be recognized. The project won the top award for public education in higher education in the 2007 Keep Tennessee Beautiful awards program.

“Our office is fortunate to work with many faculty and staff members who are our clients and who share our passion for promoting a great university,” Milligan said. “We look forward to another great year ahead.”
