KNOXVILLE — Flu shots will be provided to students, faculty and staff from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 18, in the University Center.
Shots will cost $25 and all proceeds will go to the Knoxville News Sentinel Empty Stocking Fund which provides food and toys to needy families during the winter holidays.
College campuses are particularly susceptible to the virus because of large numbers of people in close proximity in classrooms and residence halls.
Symptoms include high fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat and a runny or stuffy nose.
Simple health practices can help stop the spread of colds and flu including:
• Cover nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing
• Wash hands often with soap and water
• Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth
• Stay home when sick
Flu vaccines also are available from primary care physicians.
