KNOXVILLE — The long days of summer have come to an end for University of Tennessee students, but campus events are planned to make the transition back to classes as painless as possible.

Welcome Week 2006, sponsored by the office of Student Activities, is an eight-day schedule of entertainment activities and opportunities designed to assist freshmen in their college transition by connecting students with campus resources, other students, faculty and staff.

The events are set for the first week students return to campus — move-in day for residence halls begins Saturday, August 19, and classes begin Wednesday, August 23.

“We know the first few days on campus are exciting and sometimes overwhelming for students,” said Anton Reece, director of Student Activities. “We hope some of these activities will help familiarize students with all the opportunities available to them.”

The Welcome Week schedule also includes campus-wide events taking place through the week such as sorority and fraternity recruitment and hours of operation for some campus locations.
