Dean Candidate Interviews Under Way

KNOXVILLE — Five candidates will visit the University of Tennessee in March to interview for dean of the College of Communication and Information.

As part of the interview process, each candidate will give a presentation that will be open to all faculty and anyone interested. Candidate meetings also are scheduled with students, staff, administrators and friends of the college. Interviews will conclude on March 17.
Dean candidates are

– Dr. James L. Gaudino, dean of the College of Communication and Information at Kent State University since 2003. He has a doctorate in communication from Michigan State University.
– Dr. Wendy Ford, executive associate dean of arts and sciences at Western Michigan University. She has been at WMU since 1993. She has a doctorate in speech communication from the University of Maryland.
– Dr. David W. Schumann, the William J. Taylor Professor of Business in UT’s College of Business Administration. With UT since 1985, he has been a department head and associate dean in the College of Business Administration. He has a doctorate in social psychology from the University of Missouri.
– Dr. Shirley Staples Carter, professor and director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina since 2003. She has a doctorate in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
– Dr. Michael Wirth, director of the School of Communication at the University of Denver since 1994. He has a doctorate in mass media from Michigan State University.
