KNOXVILLE — Lofton Stuart Jr., executive assistant to University of Tennessee President John Petersen, has received the inaugural Distinguished Service Award from a regional division of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

CASE is an international association of college alumni, philanthropy and communications professionals. Stuart received the award at the CASE III Region Awards Dinner and Banquet in Nashville on Feb. 7, when it also was announced that the award is being named in his honor.
“We wanted to give this to individuals who provide service to their district, to the profession and to CASE. It’s being named for him because Lofton truly encompasses service to the organization,” said Scott Wells, chairperson of CASE III (Southeast district) and a major gifts officer at East Carolina University. “Lofton has done every job for CASE conference on the district level that you could do, he has been in advancement, and he holds the history of our district because he knows everyone who has served and in what years.”
Stuart also is a member of CASE’s national board of trustees, the organization’s highest office. From now on, the “Lofton K. Stuart Jr. Award for Distinguished Service” is to be given annually to one or more CASE members exhibiting extraordinary service, to the advancement profession and to CASE, Wells said.
“It encompasses everything about the way to serve, and it will be very hard to find the second recipient because he has set that bar so high for this award,” Wells added.
UT President Petersen was among those in Nashville to congratulate Stuart.
