KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee Film Committee and Women’s Coordinating Council will present “Sofia Coppola, A Director’s Series” in Clarence Brown Theatre Feb. 12. Two films–“The Virgin Suicides” and “Lost In Translation”–will be shown at 7 and 9:30 p.m. respectively. Admission is free for students, faculty and staff with a valid UT ID.

Coppola is the daughter of director Francis Ford Coppola, the mastermind behind the Godfather trilogy. She also is an accomplished director in her own right as the first American woman nominated for a Best Director Academy Award for “Lost in Translation.”
“The Virgin Suicides” tells of five suburban teenage sisters in the 1970s. Told by neighborhood boys, the story of the beautiful Lisbon sisters is a heart-rending investigation into the secrets of American teenagers. The film stars James Woods, Kathleen Turner and Kirsten Dunst and is based on the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides.
“Lost in Translation” won two Academy Awards and stars Bill Murray as Bob Harris, an American film actor far past his prime. He visits Tokyo to appear in commercials, and he meets Charlotte, the young wife of a visiting photographer, played by Scarlett Johansson. Bored and weary, Bob and Charlotte make ideal if improbable traveling companions.
