KNOXVILLE — University of Tennessee public radio station WUOT 91.9 FM has named Joanna N. Drake as its new assistant director.

Drake will lead the station’s fundraising and outreach activities, including underwriting, special events and giving programs.
“Ms. Drake is particularly interested in increasing community involvement in WUOT Public Radio, and we’re looking forward to her initiating many new and exciting fundraising and outreach activities for our listeners,” said WUOT director Regina Dean.
Before her UT appointment, Drake was assistant manager of annual fund events for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, directing more than 20 events each year. She also was the BSO’s coordinator of Tanglewood Annual Funds, and helped achieve a fundraising goal of $3 million.
Drake also has worked at Detroit’s Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute where she was responsible for planning and executing fundraising and internal events. Prior to that, she served as assistant director for the Academic Orientation Program at Michigan State University.
Drake received a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary humanities from Michigan State University, and gained experience as an intern on a Chrysler brand account team for Bozell Worldwide, Inc.
“We’re truly fortunate to have someone of Ms. Drake’s experience, enthusiasm and good humor to lead our development team as we move further into the digital age of broadcasting,” Dean said.
Listener-supported WUOT 91.9 FM is a 100,000 watt station broadcasting from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. A member of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, WUOT is served by National Public Radio and Public Radio International.
WUOT’s primary format is classical and jazz music, news and public affairs. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 91.9 FM and streams live on the web at wuot.org.
