KNOXVILLE — Security procedures used at Neyland Stadium also will be in effect for basketball games at the University of Tennessee’s Thompson-Boling Arena this season.
“Our protective measures at the arena have worked well in the past, and we’ll continue to implement them while looking for ways to improve,” Philip Scheurer, UT vice president for operations, said Wednesday.
“We have attempted to provide a safe and secure environment with minimal impact on fans and arena guests,” he said.
For UT men’s and women’s basketball games, gates will open 60 minutes before tip off. UT students will be required to enter the arena at the southwest gate, Scheurer said.
Large bags, backpacks and other large parcels are not allowed in Thompson-Boling Arena. Artificial noisemakers are also prohibited.
Radios with headphones, other small electronic devices and diaper bags accompanied by an infant are permitted in the arena.
All items are subject to search or inspection and hand-held metal detectors may be used, Scheurer said.
