Harvard Professor Duncan Kennedy will deliver the UT College of Law’s 2004 Alumni Distinguished Lecture in Jurisprudence on Sept. 20.

The lecture will begin at 12:20 p.m. in room 132 of the College of Law building. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The topic will be “The Social Justice Element in Legal Education: A Tentative History.”

In his presentation, Kennedy said he plans to examine the idea of social justice and its evolution from 19th century positivism to progressivism to the theories of present day.

Before earning his law degree from Yale University in 1970, Kennedy obtained the B.A. in economics from Harvard in 1964.

Kennedy has been a member of the Harvard faculty since 1971, and was named the Carter Professor in 1996. He also has been a visiting professor at the New England School of Law, the Cardoza School of Law, the Suffolk University School of Law, and the University of Paris.
