The University of Tennessee will host several cultural events, lectures and debates during the fall semester, including the Cultural Attractions Committee’s Ballet Hispanico at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Clarence Brown Theater.
At 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, they will host the Virsky Ukrainian Dance Company at the Bijou Theatre.
The Cultural Attractions Committee and the Women’s Coordinating Council will co-sponsor Putumayo Presents Latinas: Women of Latin America at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in the University Center Auditorium.
The Black Cultural Programming Committee will sponsor a lecture by Carol Mosely-Braun at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the UC Auditorium.
The Issues Committee will present an election debate at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the UC Ballroom and a debate on pornography with Ron Jeremy and Susan Cole at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in Alumni Memorial Building.
At 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20, Alexander McCall Smith, author of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, will lecture on his book in the University Center Auditorium.
The Women’s Coordinating Council will sponsor the annual Take Back the Night celebration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Circle Park.
“The Cultural Attractions Committee works hard to bring a unique blend of performing artists to campus that represent the diversity found in our modern society,” said Anthony Barrs, Cultural Attractions Committee chair.
“For that reason, the committee looks for unusual artistic performers that will broaden the artistic offerings already found in Knoxville. Our performers come from around the globe, and genres range from traditional to modern,” Barrs said.
