KNOXVILLE — Finalists for the presidency of the University of Tennessee are down to three, with one expected to be elected by the UT Board of Trustees Wednesday.

The board’s search committee Tuesday chose:

Dr. Jack Burns, vice president for academic affairs and research of the University of Colorado system.

Dr. Kermit Hall, president of Utah State University.

Dr. John Petersen, provost and executive vice president at the University of Connecticut.

The full board is scheduled to interview the three Wednesday morning and select the university’s 23rd president at a 1 p.m. EDT meeting on Wednesday, April 21. The new president is expected to take office July 1.

Following the board meeting, a reception with the president-elect for students, faculty, staff and the public is scheduled for 227 University Center.

Receptions also are planned Thursday and Friday at UT’s Chattanooga, Martin, Memphis and Tullahoma campuses.

The presidential search attracted 47 applicants.
