KNOXVILLE — Dr. Susan Martin, University of Tennessee professor of classics, has been appointed associate vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Dr. Anne Mayhew, vice chancellor for academic affairs, said Martin will assume the new position this month.

Her duties will include oversight of tenure and promotion processes in the chancellor’s office, management of academic program reviews, faculty and student appeals, and other processes that relate to academic personnel.

Martin’s area of study is Roman law and Roman social and economic history. She earned her Ph.D. in classical philology from the University of Michigan and joined the University of Tennessee faculty in 1981.

She served as head of the Department of Classics from 1991 to 2000 and has been associate dean for academic personnel in the College of Arts and Sciences since August of 2000.
