The University of Tennessee Honors Program is seeking applicants for the incoming class of 2004.
The program is open to all entering freshmen who scored a 28 or higher on the ACT, and had at least a 3.75 core grade point average in high school.
UT’s admissions deadline is February 1, 2004. Applications to the Honors Program must be postmarked by April 15, 2004.
Students who do not apply for the program in their freshman year may still be eligible in their sophomore year if they take at least one
Honors course as a freshman and maintain a high GPA in college.
There are currently more than 650 students in the University
Honors Program.
The program offers numerous benefits said Dr. Mark Luprecht, director of the program.
Honors students have priority registration. Honors classes are usually limited to an enrollment of 20 or fewer students, which allows a more direct relationship with faculty.
Honors students have the same library privileges as graduate students and receive extra advising and mentoring. There is an Honors living community in Morrill Hall, for Honors students only, and students enrolled in Honors have exclusive access to a computer lab in Melrose Hall, all day, every day.
In addition to these privileges, students in the University Honors program participate in a variety of interdisciplinary seminars.
“We really try to form a community for our Honors students,” Luprecht said. “In a big place like UT, getting the individual attention we provide is extremely helpful.”
