KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee-s Black Cultural Programming Committee is hosting an evening with John Singleton, award-winning cinema director and producer, on Monday, Sept. 8 at 7:00 pm in the University Center Auditorium.

featuring R&B singer Tyrese and rapper Snoop Dogg; “Higher Learning” with Omar Epps and Tyra Banks; “Rosewood” starring John Voight and Ving Rhames, and his most recent film, “2 Fast 2 Furious.”

Singleton received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director for “Boyz N the Hood,” making him the first and youngest African-American to gain that distinction.

Other awards he has won include and MTV Movie Award for Best Film Maker, NY Film Critics Awards for Best New Director and a special award for Directorial Debut of the Year.

His talk is free and open to the general public. A reception in the University Center Crest Room will be held immediately afterwards.
