KNOXVILLE — Football fans coming to Neyland Stadium for this week’s football game between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Thundering Herd of Marshall University can expect the same stadium security measures utilized during the home opener.

Large parcels such as backpacks or boxes will not be allowed inside the stadium or to be left at the gate, Scheurer said.

“Fans can bring cushions, small radios, cell phones, pagers and diaper bags that accompany infants, as well as small purses, but the public needs to remember that all items are subject to search by security personnel at the gate,” Scheurer said.

Last week during the UT-Fresno State game, high temperatures and bright sunshine caused 110 people to seek treatment at first aid stations located around the stadium.

“We urge people in the stands to take the necessary precautions this Saturday to avoid heat-related problems,” Scheurer said.

The gates to the stadium will open at 2 p.m. Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.

The traditional Vol Walk starts at 1:45 p.m. from Gibbs Hall to the stadium, and the Pride of the Southland Marching Band will march to the stadium at 2:20 p.m.

The Volunteer Village exhibition area will be open on the greenspace in front of the humanities building from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m.

Directional parking will be used in Area 9 and Lots 1,2,4 and 5. The new parking garage on the corner of Cumberland Avenue and 11th Street is open for donors to the Volunteer Athletic Scholarship Fund. After the game, traffic on 11th Street will be one-way northbound to Western Avenue.

Phillip Fulmer Way from Middle Drive to Tee Martin Drive, Peyton Manning Pass, Middle and Lower drives and Estabrook Drive will be closed 30 minutes before kickoff.

ESPN2 will broadcast the game Saturday.
