UT Pre-game Showcase Enters 14th Season

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee Pre-game Showcase enters its 14th season this fall of entertaining and informing Volunteer football fans.

The lectures held before each home game present top UT faculty discussing a variety of issues and timely topics.

Each session lasts about 30 minutes, beginning two hours before kick-off in 235 University Center (Shiloh Room). The first one on August 30 will be in the University Center ballroom before the Fresno State game.

The presentations are free and open to the public, and free refreshments are provided.

The schedule for this year’s series is:
Aug. 30, Fresno State, Dr. David Brunell, associate professor of Music, “Places in the Heart: The Joy of Romantic Music” in the UC Ballroom.

Sept. 6, Marshall, Dr. Jon Shefner, assistant professor of Sociology, “Globalization: What-s It Got To Do With Tennessee and Me?”

Sept. 27, South Carolina, Dr. Pamela Small, associate professor in the Department of Microbiology in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine, “Emerging Infectious Diseases”

Oct. 11, Georgia, Dr. Stephen Ash, associate professor of history, “A Year in the South: Four Lives in 1865.”

Nov. 1, Homecoming game against Duke, Dr. Jeffrey Moersch, assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, “Exploring the ‘Orange’ Planet: UT and NASA-s Mars Exploration Rover Mission.”

Nov. 15, Mississippi State, Dr. Debora Baldwin, associate professor, Department of Psychology, “Stress and Immunity: The Optimist-s Perspective.”

Nov. 22, Vanderbilt, Dr. Paul Lee, professor and director, School of Art, “From Silicon to Silver: The Art of Digital Photography.”

The Pre-game Showcase is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, the UT Men’s Athletic Department, the Department of Alumni Affairs and the UT National Alumni Association.
