KNOXVILLE — A community luncheon with U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham will be held at noon Friday July 18, at the University Tennessee’s Circle Park.

Abraham became the 10th Secretary of Energy on Jan. 20, 2001. Prior to being named to that post, he represented Michigan in the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2001.

Before his election to the Senate, Abraham served as co-chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee from 1991 to 1993.

He also served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Vice President Dan Quayle and chaired the Michigan Republican Party.

In addition to remarks from Abraham, Friday’s program includes music by the UT Jazz Faculty Ensemble and comments from Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe, UT President John Shumaker and Sen. Lamar Alexander.
