KNOXVILLE — Two University of Tennessee students have been awarded national scholarships.

John Evans received the Morris K. Udall Scholarship and John Sturgis received a National Security Education Program David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship.

Evans, an honors student from Chattanooga, is majoring in ecology and evolutionary biology. He is studying insect pollination of rare plants in the Smoky Mountains this summer through a UT undergraduate summer research internship.

The Morris K. Udall Scholarship is awarded to 80 outstanding students who are studying the environment.

Sturgis is an honors student from Memphis majoring in political science. He will pursue an intensive Russian language study next fall at Tver University in Russia.

The Boren Scholarship is awarded yearly to students who are pursuing international study in countries outside of Western Europe.
