KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee opera students and faculty are uniting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in a concert to alleviate world hunger. The performance will be in the UT Music Hall.
“The benefit concert features 40 different opera singers, seven stage directors and four accompanists,” said Valerie Nicolosi, a UT graduate student participating in the event. “Knoxville opera celebrities like Daniel Berry, Carroll Freeman, Karen Nickell, Majorie Stephens and Andrew Wentzel will perform.”
Singers will present scenes from “La Traviata,” “Die Fledermaus,” “Marriage of Figaro” and “Carmen.”
All proceeds from the event will go to Save a Family Plan, a not-for-profit organization that offers monthly support to 30,000 needy families.
“We decided on benefiting the Save a Family Plan because it gives 100 percent of all donations directly to the poor,” said Nicolosi.
The admission is free. Donations will be accepted during intermission.
