KNOXVILLE — A portable system that can provide broadband Internet access, including real-time video broadcasts, to rural areas will be on public display at the University of Tennessee March 24 and 25.

demonstrated at 4 p.m. Monday in Room A335 at the UT Veterinary Teaching Hospital. On Tuesday the demonstration will move to the Shiloh Room in the UT’s University Center. The demonstration will start at 9 a.m.
“The system was developed to provide high-speed access directly to the end user,” said Chris Hodge of UT’s Office of Information Technology, which is a sponsor of the demonstration.
“It’s useful for expanding educational and governmental services in rural communities where standard Internet connectivity is limited.
“TSIS is designed so that it can be built using easily obtainable parts at an affordable price.”
The technology was recently nominated for Computerworld magazine’s 21st Century Achievement Award by Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, Hodge said.
The system will be on display at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga on March 26 at 3 p.m. in the Probasco Auditorium of the Erlanger Health System Medical Mall.
