A groundbreaking ceremony for the new University of Tennessee Black Cultural Center is set for 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 27.

The ceremony will be held at the corner of Melrose and Melrose Place across from the John 23rd Catholic Center and next to Hess Hall.

Scheduled speakers include UT President J. Wade Gilley and other UT officials and community leaders. Invited guests include Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe and State Rep. Joe Armstrong (D-Knoxville). The ceremony is free and open to the public.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the UT International House, 1623 Melrose Ave.

Drawings, floor plans, and other information about the building will be available.
