Calici in Cats

Recent reports of Calici in cats has prompted concerns by cat owners. Calici is NOT transmittable from cats to human. People may spread this virus from one cat to another cat indirectly from their hands and clothing coming in direct contact with an infected cat. People cannot become infected with the disease from their cats, however.

Cats which have been vaccinated with common FVRCP vaccines are protected against the most common strains of Calici. Other strains are sometimes identified which are more resistant to these vaccines. For more information about Calici, please access an informational document at the Cat Fanciers Association web site (http://www.cfainc.org/health/calici.html).
