Knoxville – The University of Tennessee Police Department is temporarily closing several streets on campus, as work continues to construct a bridge connecting the main campus and agriculture campus.

A section of the western end of Volunteer Boulevard, Andy Holt Avenue and UT Drive will be closed for five months.

Construction work on the parking garage next door to Thompson-Boling Arena will pose further challenges to students, faculty and staff trying to drive through campus, said UT Police Assistant Chief Deborah Perry.

“Anytime you-re going to increase motorist traffic to the extent that we are expecting, people may have a delay,” Perry said. “That-s why we will have police officers staffing the intersections and controlling the signal lights, to be sure we keep the traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.”

Perry said the general public should also be aware of the traffic changes.

“I want to encourage fans and spectators who attend sporting events and concerts in the arena to be familiar with the road closures, and to come to the arena from Neyland Drive and Lake Loudoun Boulevard, which is the best way to get to the arena,” Perry said.

The Neyland Drive entrance to the Thompson-Boling Arena parking garage will be closed from Monday, January 29 to Thursday, February 1.
