View Leonid Meteor Shower Nov. 16-17

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society will sponsor a special viewing of the Leonid Meteor Watch at 9 p.m. on Nov. 16 and 17, in the Visitor’s Center Parking Lot of the Bandy Creek Campground of the Big South Fork.

Big South Fork is a National River and Recreation Area
about 100 miles north of Knoxville, up I-75.

Paul Lewis, UT’s astronomy outreach director, and members of the astronomical society will answer questions about the
shower and provide telescope viewing of other celestial objects such as Jupiter and Saturn.

-There will be no formal program, but the Big South Fork is an excellent dark sky location for this wonderful event,- Lewis said.
