UT Professor Heads Speech-Hearing Group

KNOXVILLE — A University of Tennessee professor has been elected president of a national speech-and-hearing academic organization.

Dr. Patrick J. “Jerry” Carney will lead the Council of Academic Programs in Communications Sciences and Disorders, a group made up of 243 graduate education programs in audiology, speech-language pathology, and communications sciences and disorders.

Carney is the head of UT’s department of audiology and speech pathology and previously served as president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In Knoxville, he served on boards for St. Mary’s Health System and Associated Catholic Charities of East Tennessee.
