KNOXVILLE — Alvin Nance, vice president of Sun Trust Bank, is the new head of UT’s University Associates.

The associates are a group of civic leaders who advise UT leaders on community issues. The group meets monthly with deans and administrators.
“The associates input will be of great value as we move UT into the nation’s top 25 public universities and focus on city and regional issues,” UT President J. Wade Gilley said.
“Alvin Nance will continue the outstanding leadership that Harrigan Moyers provided last year.”

Joseph L. Johnson, owner of A&W Office Supply, is chair-elect and will head the associates in the 2001-2002 academic year.
Nance, a business administration graduate of Maryville College, has served as chairman of the Knoxville Community Development Corp. and the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. He has served as a board member of the East Tennessee Foundation and the Knox Housing Partnership.
