KNOXVILLE — A Tennessee native and top MTV executive will speak here Nov. 18 on the growing worldwide economic clout of teenagers.

Todd Cunningham, MTV senior vice president of research and planning, will talk to University of Tennessee-Knoxville communications students about how the cable network tailors its messages to teenagers in many different cultures.

His talk, which is open to the public, is set for 2:10 p.m. in room 317 of the Communications building.

“Todd has the problem of creating an MTV image with people in Latin America, Africa and Asia, as well as in Europe and North America,” Dr. Barbara Moore, head of the UT-Knoxville broadcasting department, said.

“MTV is offered around the world by satellite,” Moore said. “Teenagers in all parts of the world get to see it. But it’s different programming in different countries.”

Cunningham, a graduate of UT-Knoxville’s College of Business Administration, is from Jefferson County.
