Knoxville — External research funding at UT-Knoxville in the 1999 fiscal year was $82.2 million, up $9.1 million from the previous year, the Office of Research reported.

In its official report for FY 1999, the research office will include figures for units in the Institute of Agriculture. Inclusion of agriculture’s $10.6 million will bring institutional funding to $92.8 million in externally funded research.

“Awards from external funding – won in competition with other major research universities by UTK’s outstanding faculty and staff – represent about 20-25 percent of the total academic budget for UT-Knoxville,” said Dr. Mike Devine, vice chancellor for research.
