KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Walter Williams of the University of Tennessee has been appointed to a national small manufacturing steering committee.

Williams has helped plan a small manufacturing symposium Sept. 12-13 in Waterbury, Conn., as part of his work with the Small Manufacturing Special Interest Group (SMSIG). He is an electronic commerce consultant with the Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Program at UT.

The interest group represents firms that provide raw materials or finished products to original equipment suppliers and usually have fewer than 200 employees.

Williams is a certified Fellow of the American Production and Inventory Control Society of which SMSIG is a part.

The Connecticut conference, open to Tennessee firms, will examine supply chain, quality control and on-line operations, Williams said. The agenda can be viewed on-line at www.apics.org. Registration information is available at 1-800-444-2742, option four.
