KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee is joining an Australian university to offer the first complete on-line program in maintenance and reliability engineering and asset management.
Students around the world can use the Internet to earn certificates or degrees in maintenance and reliability engineering through a joint program between UT-Knoxville and Monash University in Melbourne.
“These new agreements will allow us to offer continuing education and distance education programs for all levels of management and technical professionals,” said Dr. Tom Shannon, director of the UT Maintenance and Reliability Center.
Monash’s distance education programs currently serve more than 12,500 students worldwide each year.
Graduate and undergraduate degrees and nondegree certificates will be offered in North America, Shannon said.
Maintenance and reliability engineering is a scientific approach to manufacturing plant maintenance and to measuring and predicting the reliability of manufacturing equipment. Asset management involves data analysis of equipment maintenance records.
The UT Maintenance and Reliability Center’s Continuing Education Group also is merging with the Risk and Reliability Institute of the ABS Group Corp., which offers training in maintenance and reliability. The joint venture will offer training facilities in the current ABS site at 1000 Technology Drive near Pellissippi Parkway, Knox County.
