KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Sarah West, graduate of Greenwood High School, has been named a Tennessee Scholar at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

West, daughter of Curtis and Linda West of Bowling Green, plans to study engineering at UT-Knoxville.

The Tennessee Scholar award is one of the university’s highest academic scholarships. It is based on academic achievement, creative ability, and involvement in school and community activities. Scholars are awarded $4000 annually for four years.

Tennessee Scholars participate in honors courses during their freshman and sophomore years and participate in an honors seminar each semester they are at UT. In the senior year, they complete an original project under the direction of a faculty mentor.

At Greenwood, West was president of the National Honor Society, a member of the track and cross-country teams, and a recipient of the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Award.
