UT-Knoxville Makes Administrative Changes (250)

A reorganization of administrative duties at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville was announced Thursday by Chancellor Bill Snyder.

* Dr. John G. Peters, vice chancellor for academic affairs, is now provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs.

* Philip Scheurer, vice chancellor for administration and student affairs, has been named senior vice chancellor for business and finance.

* Timothy Rogers, dean of students, has been appointed interim vice chancellor for student affairs.

The changes are effective immediately. A search for a permanent student affairs vice chancellor will begin soon, Snyder said.

“These changes bring our business and finance operations together into a single unit and recognize the leadership and administrative abilities of John Peters and Phil Scheurer,” Snyder said.

“This new structure will help us serve faculty, students and staff more effectively and efficiently.”

As provost, Peters is acting chancellor in Snyder’s absence, and he oversees coordination of academic programs and services.

Scheurer assumes responsibility for the campus budget office, UT-Knoxville student service functions of the bursar’s office, business services operations, and space and facilities management.

He retains responsibility for Thompson Boling Assembly Center and Arena, the university book store, UT police, dining services, parking, the physical plant, student health services, and university housing.

Rogers will oversee career services, the Center for International Education, the dean of students office, minority student affairs, and student counseling.

UT-Knoxville has three other vice chancellorships: development and alumni affairs, Linda S. Davidson; research, Dr. Michael Devine; and information infrastructure, which Snyder is filling on an interim basis.
