KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Scan the scholarly journals for advertising research and chances are you will find much of it was done at the University of Tennessee.

The current Journal of Advertising reports that UT-Knoxville’s 23 published articles on advertising research from 1989 to 1996 rank third nationally. Georgia was first with 48 and Rutgers had 28.

Dr. Eric Haley, UT-Knoxville associate professor of advertising, said the survey counted research from 249 schools published in the Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, and Current Issues and Research in Advertising.
Haley, who is also associate dean of the College of Communications, said UT research areas include advertising and law, health issues, and the Internet.

“Our research publication record is an advertisement in itself,” Haley said. “It reflects stellar work of faculty in advertising and other departments in the College of Communications. It’s indicative of the excellence of our programs.”

UT-Knoxville’s advertising department also was lauded in 1996 when U.S. News and World Report ranked its graduate advertising program in the nation’s top ten.
