UT Trustees to Consider Shaw for Search Committee (215)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Appointment of Memphian Lucy Shaw to the search committee which will help select a new president of the University of Tennessee will be considered in a special meeting of the UT Board of Trustees.

Beauchamp Brogan, UT general counsel and secretary to the board, said the trustees will consider Shaw’s appointment in a telephone conference call at 10 a.m., Aug. 28.

Brogan said the call will originate from his office, 721 Andy Holt Tower. The meeting was requested by Bill Sansom, vice chairman of the board of trustees and chair of the search committee.

Sansom, a Knoxville trustee, said he proposed adding Shaw to the committee because of the input of board members during their last conference call meeting.

”I have asked Lucy Shaw (a UT trustee from Memphis) if she would agree to serve,” Sansom said. ”She has indicated her willingness to do so. I believe adding Lucy to the search committee is the right thing to do.”

Other members of the committee are Johnnie Amonette, Memphis; Roger W. Dickson, Chattanooga; J. Steven Ennis, Tullahoma; Jim Haslam, Knoxville; R. Clayton McWhorter, Nashville; and Arnold Perl, Memphis.

UT President Joe Johnson has announced plans to retire June 30, 1999, or when his successor is approved.
