Tips Offered for Conserving Old Books and Documents (140)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The public is invited to bring its own “attic treasurers” to a free lecture May 5 about the preservation of library materials.

Don Etherington, a library materials preservationist and conservationist from North Carolina, will speak at a meeting of the University of Tennessee Library Friends.

The program, part of the Dr. and Mrs. A.H. Lancaster Lecture Series, will be at 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the UT Conference Center, 600 Henley St.

Following the lecture, Etherington will examine the audience’s old books or documents and offer recommendations for conservation of the items.

Etherington has worked for the Library of Congress, the Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, and as a consultant for the Biblioteca Nazionale in Florence, Italy, after the 1966 flood there. He is president of the Conservation Center of Information Conservation, Inc., in Greensboro, N.C.
