KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– A dance company from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville will perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington May 20.

Dance instructor Melinda Brown and nine of her students will participate in the National College Dance Festival Gala Performance. They will perform “My Ascension,” choreographed by Brown.

The UT dancers were selected to appear in the festival by a panel of judges at the southeastern regional festival in Montgomery earlier this month.

“This is an exciting time for Ms. Brown and the UT Dance Company,” Dr. Gene McCutchen, an assistant professor and dance program coordinator, said.

“To be selected for the regional gala performance during their second year of attendance at the festival was outstanding. Then to garner the prestige of the top honor, being chosen to perform at the national festival, is phenomenal.”
