KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Dr. Paul G. Ashdown, University of Tennessee-Knoxville journalism professor, has earned a $12,500 teaching award from Baylor University.

Officials at the Waco, Texas, school said Ashdown was chosen for his extraordinary teaching abilities, impact on students, and other professional achievements.

The award was funded by the late Robert F. Cherry, a Baylor alumnus, to honor outstanding teachers and bring them to campus for lectures.

A member of the journalism faculty at UT-Knoxville since 1977, Ashdown is scheduled to give a week-long series of lectures at Baylor in the spring of 1999.

Ashdown was a Chancellor’s Teacher-Scholar from 1995 to 1997 and was awarded the UT National Alumni Association’s Outstanding Teacher Award in 1991.
