Perrys Endow Scholarship at UT-Martin (145)

MARTIN, Tenn. –Dr. Margaret Perry, retired chancellor of the University of Tennessee-Martin, and her husband, Randy, have endowed a scholarship at the campus.

The Perrys recently gave more than $60,000 to endow a University Scholar scholarship that will be awarded for the first time during the 1998-99 academic year.

Margaret Perry retired Jan. 31 after serving as chancellor for 11 years. Randy Perry is the retired dean of UT-Martin’s School of Engineering.

“This endowment will have a long life and it serves two needs,” she said. “It helps recruit students and it serves the needs of students.”

Students invited into the University Scholars Program receive a scholarship package worth more than $3,200 for each year they participate.

UT-Martin currently has 12 University Scholars. A campus goal, under the 21st Century Campaign, is to raise enough money to endow 60 of the scholarships, the former chancellor said.
