KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Students in early childhood education interested in a career helping young children with disabilities may be eligible for financial support while they learn.
Dr. Sharon Judge, assistant education professor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, said funds are available for students in their senior and internship years to participate in a two-year training program.
They would learn how to meet the needs of infants, toddlers and pre-school children with disabilities, Judge said.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services is providing a three-year, $368,000 grant to UT for program, she said.
“Student financial assistance would take the form of a training stipend and tuition assistance,” Judge said. “We will be recruiting 10 students during each year of the three-year grant.”
Successful completion of the program would lead to a masters degree and teacher licensure, Judge said.
