MARTIN, Tenn. — Dr. Nick Dunagan, long-time administrator at the University of Tennessee-Martin, will serve as the campus’s acting chancellor starting in February, UT President Joe Johnson said Tuesday.
Johnson said Dunagan will fill in for Dr. Margaret Perry, who is retiring in January. She has been the campus’s chancellor since 1986.
This will be Dunagan’s second term as acting chancellor. Prior to Perry’s appointment, he held the position from October 1985 to June 1986.
“The University of Tennessee at Martin and UT are fortunate to have a well-qualified and devoted leader in Nick Dunagan,” Johnson said. “Nick knows and respects UT-Martin, and he will do well as acting chancellor.”
Dunagan, who is currently UT-Martin’s executive vice chancellor and vice chancellor for development and administration, said the campus was headed in the right direction.
“My goal during this transitional period will be to maintain the momentum and work closely with the great students, faculty and staff who make this a special place,” said Dunagan, who began his career at UT-Martin in 1968.
A search process to make recommendations on candidates to succeed Perry already is underway, Johnson said.
Dunagan, a UT Martin graduate, is a native of Caruthersville, Mo. He also holds a law degree from the University of Missouri and the doctoral degree from Vanderbilt University.
