KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– Some East Tennessee child care centers can receive $600 each through a University of Tennessee collaboration with Levi Strauss & Co.

Dr. Jan Allen of UT’s Knoxville Area Child Care Information and Referral Service said local day care centers that enroll children of Levi Strauss employees are eligible for the program.

“More companies are increasing their awareness of family issues and investing in the family life of employees,” Allen said. “Levi Strauss’ support of this program is a good example of that investment.”

About 10 child care centers can receive $600 each to use for books, toys, playground equipment and other materials, Allen said.

UT child care specialists also will provide technical assistance to participating centers to help them improve curriculum, classroom management, learning, child behavior and other areas. The training also will help providers market and advertise their programs, Allen said.

Eligible day care centers may call 974-8911 for more information.

The Knoxville Area Child Care Information and Referral Service provides information and training for families, corporations, and child care providers in Knox and 13 surrounding counties.
