 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Dr. Harold L. Dodds has been appointed head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

 Dodds, a professor in the department since 1976, succeeds Dr. Thomas W. Kerlin, who recently retired. Dodds’ research interests include developing methods and applications in nuclear reactor physics and reactor and criticality safety.

 Faculty achievement awards Dodds has received in the College of Engineering include the 1997 Allen and Hoshall Engineering Faculty Award, the college’s 1981 IBM Professor of Engineering Award and the Moses E. and Mayme Brooks Distinguished Faculty Award.

 Dodds has served as consultant for Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Electric Power Research Institute, Argonne National Laboratory, Westinghouse Savannah River Co., Schlumberger-Doll Research Corp., Technology for Energy Corp. and Exxon Research and Engineering Co.

 Dodds, a research analyst for the DuPont company before coming to UT, is a Registered Professional Engineer and Fellow of the American Nuclear Society. He lives in Farragut with his wife Pat.
