MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Nobel Prize winner Dr. Peter Doherty will speak to spring graduates of the University of Tennessee-Memphis at 1:30 p.m., June 6, in the Mid-South Coliseum.
Doherty, who won the 1996 Nobel Prize in medicine, chairs the department of immunology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital here and is professor of pediatrics and pathology at UT-Memphis.
UT President Joe Johnson will confer 457 health science degrees. UT-Memphis Chancellor Bill Rice will preside.
Doherty and colleague Dr. Rolf M. Zinkernagel shared the 1996 Nobel Prize in medicine for their research on how the body’s immune system recognizes virus-infected cells.
