UT-Knoxville Professor Earns Authors’ Award (150)

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Allen Wier, professor of English at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, will be among the authors honored here next month when the Chattanooga Conference on Southern Literature hosts the Fellowship of Southern Writers.

Wier is scheduled to receive the fellowship’s Chubb Award for Fiction in Honor of Robert Penn Warren.

Wier’s most recent work, “Walking On Water and Other Stories,” is a collection of short stories published last year by University of Alabama Press. Harper and Row published Weir’s most recent novel, “A Place for Outlaws,” in 1989.

As a fellowship award winner, Wier has been invited to participate in an April 4 panel discussion on the future of Southern literature, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama.

The conference, sponsored by the Arts and Education Council, will be held April 3-5 at UT-Chattanooga and the Tivoli Theater. Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Styron will address the conference on April 5.
