KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Suzanne H. Livingood, 48, director of development and alumni affairs for the University of Tennessee College of Law, died Friday at her home following a lengthy illness.
Livingood had been on the College of Law staff since 1992 and had previously held fund-raising positions at Fort Sanders Foundation and Child & Family Services of Knox County.
Richard Wirtz, dean of the law college, said Livingood would be remembered for her fund-raising expertise and the friends she made for the college.
“We will remember her for that, with gratitude, but we will remember her even more for her care and concern for people, her devotion to her family and church, and her unquenchable spirit,” Wirtz said.
Jack Williams, vice chancellor for development at UT-Knoxville, said Livingood was the “consummate professional, highly regarded by alumni, friends and colleagues.
“Her professionalism and work ethic while fighting serious illness was a source of inspiration to us all,” Williams said.
Livingood was widely recognized for her success in breeding and showing champion Pekingese dogs, friends said.
She earned the designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive from the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. She was founding president of the Smoky Mountain Chapter of NSFRE in 1988 and served as board member, philanthropy chairs and nominating committee chair.
Active in church work, Livingood was a member of the Parish Council of Sacred Heart Church and was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Livingood held an Addy Gold Award for her work with the Patricia Neal Center and an Addy Silver Award for her work with Hospice. She was the Parent Annual Giving Phonathon Chair for Webb School during 1991-92.
A native of Louisville, Ky., and a graduate of the University of Louisville, Livingood is survived by husband, Chris; and two children, Patrick, a graduate student at University of Michigan, and Jennifer, a student at UT-Knoxville.
Visitation will be 3-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Mann’s Heritage Chapel. Rosary service will follow for those who wish to participate. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church.
Wirtz said the Development and Alumni Affairs Office in the renovated law school building, now nearing completion, will bear Livingood’s name.
