KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– Michael Curry, a marketing and public relations executive and University of Tennessee graduate, has joined UT’s development staff as assistant vice president of corporate relations.

John Sheridan, senior associate vice president of development, said Curry has responsibility for soliciting gifts from local and national corporations. Curry succeeds Henry Guigou who retired in December 1995.

“We are very pleased to have a person of Mike Curry’s talent and experience join our staff,” Sheridan said. “His knowledge of UT and his experience working with corporate executives and their staffs will be a great asset in this position.”

UT President Joe Johnson said the university has outstanding support from business, totaling $9-10 million annually. UT has had a corporate gifts office for more than 25 years.

“The university has talented faculty and students whose achievements and research attract corporate attention and support, and it is important for us to continue to be competitive for these gift dollars,” Johnson said. “Mike Curry will help us maintain that competitive edge.”

Curry, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and the MBA from UT-Knoxville, was with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 17 years in marketing development and government and media planning positions. He also was with Kimberly-Clark Corp. and the Snavley Financial Group.
