UT Program Builds Strong Families (120)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — “One couple at a time,” Tennessee families are becoming stronger by learning to communicate, solve problems and make decisions, a University of Tennessee child and family specialist said Thursday.

Dr. Lane Morris said more than 500 couples have been helped by a UT-Knoxville program that assists them in rediscovering the positive qualities of their relationships. The program is called Building and Enriching Stronger Tennessee (BEST) Families.

Two, ten-hour workshops, “Communication — The Key to a Satisfying Marriage,” and “Parents Communicating Character, Competence and Control,” are offered through various churches, schools, corporate employee assistance programs and community agencies across the state.

“The key to the program is that we are moving couples forward toward growth rather than focusing on the past,” he said.
