KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– Dr. Alan P. Chesney is the new head of human resources at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Chesney’s appointment as executive director of the Office of Human Resources is effective Monday, UT-Knoxville Chancellor Bill Snyder said Friday.

Chesney comes to UT from the University of Texas-El Paso where he has been human resources director since 1992.

“We had several outstanding candidates for this position,” Snyder said. “Alan Chesney’s background and experience are a good match for UT-Knoxville, and I’m pleased he will be joining the UT team on Monday.”

He succeeds Joseph Fornes, who has served as interim director for the past year. Fornes is UT’s executive director of business services.

Chesney, who has been with the University of Texas system since 1975, earned a Ph.D. in sociology from Case Western Reserve University. He has a master’s degree from Case Western and a bachelor’s from Hope College. He is an adjunct professor at Texas-El Paso.

Prior to accepting the El Paso post, Chesney was with the Texas Medical Branch campus in Galveston.
