KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– A University of Tennessee education professor is helping Russia develop its first electronic school counselor program.
Dr. Marla Peterson, who just returned from Russia, said computer technology is transforming the way school counselors around the world are trained. UT-Knoxville developed the nation’s first career and educational information systems course, she said.
“The key ingredient in the use of computer-based technology to teach school counselors is access and use of technology for career and educational planning,” Peterson said.
UT-Knoxville is represented on the national technology committee of the American School Counselor Association.
Peterson and Dr. William Poppen, who is also a professor of counselor education, are part of the School-To-Career partnership in Knox and Blount counties. UT-Knoxville graduate students are serving as interns in Knox and Blount county schools, helping teachers use computer technology.
